I'm seeing info about this that contradicts. Is a crossover really needed when using with separate sound card and only using for SimHub, which as far as I know uses telemetry and not anything that would include voices? I'm looking at amps such as the SMSL SA-98E with some Aura Pro's.

No crossover is not required as you can choose frequency directly on the effects, cross over is useful to filter more complex sounds and "extract" the bass component. But in this particular case the sound is already in the bass range.
