I have an rFactor 2 dash overlay and it has Action A and others for hotkeys but I don't know what that means. I've tried various modifiers with A, B, C etc and nothing changes. Any help appreciated

A/B/C/D actions are used when the dash has some multiple screens widget, the dash designer can choose one of those 4 actions to change this part (for instance in a screen it can only changes the right part with a cycle between map/fuel/tyres ... this is just an exemple, i'm not sure how it has been used in your particular case) , then to use this action you have to assign a control to the related input in simhub :
OK - perfect. Unfortunately, when I go to set those, they don't seem to see any keyboard input. It is just Waiting for Input indefinitely.
Indeed keyboard plugin is not enabled by default (antiviruses doesn't like softwares watching for keyboard inputs,so it's not enabled by default to reduce false positives),only controllers, you can enable in simhub global settings : settings menu on left then "plugins" and finally check "keyboard input plugin"
